Mary Ellen Jennings,
nee McNicholas, was born May 1, 1930 in Ara, Balla, County Mayo, Ireland
to John and Winnifred, nee Hughes, McNicholas. She passed away Monday, Oct. 4,
2004 at Northwest Community Healthcare Center. Mary Ellen volunteered for over
15 years at the Moorings Healthcare in Arlington Heights. She started the rosary
group at St. James Church, where she also volunteered with the St. James Women's
Club, was a member of the St. Gerard's Guild and the Knights of Columbus
Auxiliary Group. She was also a 25 year member of The Mary, Immaculate Queen
Group, the 3rd Order of St. Francis of Assisi, was also active with The Little
Sisters of the Poor and the Pro-Life Organization. Member of the Blue Army. Mary
is survived by her husband, Laurence Francis Jennings, whom she married on Jan.
26, 1963 in Chicago; her children, Evelyn (B. Fred) Adkins of Buffalo Grove,
Brian (Frances) Jennings of Hoboken, NJ, Garrett (Jennifer) Jennings of
Palatine, Larry (Iria Irlanda) Jennings of Hinsdale and Colleen (Frank) Suljic
of Winnetka; grandchildren, Freddie, Emma, Elisa, Aidan, Garrett, Ava, Lelia,
Liam, Brian, Benjamin, Lorenzo and Evan; brothers and sisters, Tom (the late
Mary Ellen) McNicholas, Pat (the late Kathleen) McNicholas, John (Mary)
McNicholas, Ann (Larry) Butler and Philomena (Michael) O'Laughlin. She is
preceded in death by her parents and two children, Gerard and Mary Jennings.
Visitation Friday from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd. (4 blocks south of Palatine Rd.), Arlington
Heights. Prayers will be held 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the Glueckert Funeral Home,
Ltd., proceeding to St. James Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington
Heights, for Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Maryhill Cemetery, Niles. In lieu
of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Women's Center, 5116 N.
Cicero, Chicago, IL 60630 or Carmelite Monastery, 1101 N. River Rd. Des Plaines,
